  • I joined Mastodon last month and so could finally sort of see how it would work - if you were using your Kbin account to log into Mastodon for example you could share a post from a Lemmy community directly to your Mastodon followers.

    That is very cool.

The rest is a bit clunky like you say though. I could use my Kbin account to post to Mastodon from this community. Would that serve any purpose? Doesn’t appear so. Might become clearer in the future

  • It is a Kbin only thing but since I signed up to Mastodon recently it makes a lot more sense.

Because Kbin is tied to Mastodon if you use your Kbin account to also post to Mastodon by clicking ‘Boost’

In Twitter terms, you’re retweeting that comment or post straight to your Mastodon feed for your followers to see.

I set up a separate Mastodon account because I want to use them as different networks at this point, but I can see the appeal of having that ability to crosspost between platforms

EDIT And as the other person said, within Kbin if something is getting Boosted (ie retweeted) it will pick up on that and the comment or post will be pushed further up the list if you’re viewing things by Hot or Top I think. But only on Kbin so most people here won’t know

  • There are so much socialists/communists around, including Lemmy’s founders. Even the ‘subreddits’ called communities.

I call bs on this. This is just regurgitation of ‘common knowledge’. The creators of the code had tanky beliefs and that has no bearing on the vast majority of the content.

What I find is there’s a lot of privacy hardliners to the point where I’m scared to admit that I like using Chrome as my browser in case I get lynched. But I’ve joined/lurked on a lot of communities (and how is that a communist word?!?) and not so far seen anything turn into a debate about socialism/communism.

    But bye bye.

  • Whenever someone brings this up, which seems to be daily, I just think of the amount of different subs I was on Reddit for for the same or similar things and think well it’s not really that different. There were always several for reading, history etc and the same is true here so…

You can just do a quick check to see the most active group and join that one if you really just want the one which I sometimes do. Or just join loads and see which ones are best which I also sometimes do… It’s all part of the fun for me but it really seems to bug some people

  • I felt like the first line up of Public Image Limited that split up after Metal Box could have done at least one more great album with Wobble’s bass and Levene’s guitar - instead it all fell apart after that and became the John Lydon show.

The Manic Street Preachers had just hit their stride with The Holy Bible album when Richey Edwards disappeared. It was devastating all round when he went. They did great stuff after but I always wondered what direction they would have gone in if he had still been with them because his lyrics were the ones I found most interesting
