i installed tor to use z-lib cos the clearnet site got taken down. wondering what sites to use to find cool or interesting stuff, and which ones to avoid for the aforementioned horrid images

I don’t even know how to look for onion sites. I don’t want to encounter any regrettable content either. So is there a way to search for onion sites in a safe way?
Ahmia is a great search engine. They have a policy that explicitely states that they do not list cp content and they actively remove them on a regular basis if they suddenly pop-up. There used to be some sites that had lists of great and interesting onions but sadly the way onions are shown, many false duplicates showed up and now it’s impossible to find the real original sites (mainly thinking about “the hidden wiki”). If you use Whonix, they have a startpage of their own for Tor browser which lists good and reputable search engines for the network. Hope that somewhat helps.
One thing I forgot to mention. On the deep/dark web nothing is monitored the way the clearweb is, meaning even if you try to avoid some things, you might stumble upon disturbing things. Maybe not images, but walls of texts or something else. My biggest advice if you want to find fun and/or interesting sites would be to look into webrings that either mirror on the dark web from the clearnet or direclty using safe search engines. I can recommend Yesterweb to start with since they not only have a big webring but also a page dedicated to interesting sites liked by the community.
I thought maybe the hidden wiki would be something cool and interesting so I googled it. Interesting but not cool.
There are some onion search engines that provide a little bit of context about the site you’re about to visit, much like how classic Google search used to look.
Because of that, I’ve been able to stay away from some sites that are obviously including cp because of the context provided.
I can’t remember the name of the one I use and I’m away from my computer, but if you google search for “onion search engine”, you should be able to find it or another like it that can do this.

That was the url my personal Z-library url redirects to, unless my personal url was compromised? Like, remember when they first went back online and you had to register to get your own url to access zlib? I’ve just been using that
Going through Anna’s Archive also works, they usually have zlib links
The cool and interesting stuff that isn’t horrid is already on the regular Internet.
By browsing the dark ones, you will eventually get a good non creepy one.
