In defense of Zuckerberg – and there’s something I never thought I’d say – they changed the name of the company so that they could introduce new brands. They were not dumb enough to rebrand the successful products. It’s just now Facebook by Meta.

I don’t think there’s any great mystery to this. We want to breed with the mate most likely to help us produce viable offspring. Therefore we’re sensitive to indications of health and good genes. Symmetry, smoothness of muscle movements, quality of skin & hair, indications of good blood flow, even things like regular breathing are all indications. When we see a simulation that appears not quite human it’s noticable for all those details. That detection of unhealthy can easily detect death of course. There may also have been an instinct to avoid the sick, but social pressures override that sometimes.
The internet theory that we wanted to detect imposter humans is silly. Early hominids interbred a lot. It’s not “human” that we’re sensitive too. Just health.
WTF. I never knew this. All this time I thought I was being responsible using parchment paper. I did not know it was silicone coated damnit. Need to look for other options now.
Some isolated pockets of people would be in areas where it’s possible to farm and hunt. Keep in mind I’m talking about the case where we thoroughly trash the planet. Maybe 99% die but as a species we’d probably survive. Personally I’d like us to wise up and keep a technological civilization but one that’s sustainable. Not holding out a lot of hope.
Short of engineering a plague I don’t think we’ll make ourselves extinct but we can very easily wipe out civilization and turn ourselves back into hunter gathers. And it won’t be like those post apocalyptic movies where everyone still has good teeth and discover caches of supplies and weapons all the time.
Yep. Pretty sure I remember it from there. Shame that show lost its creator and went downhill.
And it was positive emotion. It was joy for getting the job and the “suck my dick” comment I read as “let me have this”. And I’m an old dude.
Was it professional or a wise idea? No, but it’d like an astronaut on their first space walk saying “Holy fuck this is amazing.”
Check out glassdoor if you are in the US. Last I looked the data was pretty decent though it may be slipping. Be careful posting there.
Also if you are friends (or friends of friends) with any experienced recruiters not at the companies you’re applying to, they usually have up to date info.
Turns out that didn’t make the stock price go up fast enough to enable buy-backs for the execs.
One of the funniest things I ever saw on Twitter (long time ago): “Accidentally washed the toddler with dog shampoo. In my defense both bottles have pictures of puppies on them.”

To whoever downvoted this, I hope you have a five day bout of constipation.
Making up stories of past and present hardship for sympathy does sound like my ex who was diagnosed with BPD. But not everyone diagnosed behaves the same, and there are several similar disorders in the cluster, plus comorbidities. The diagnoses are really just descriptive anyway. We don’t know enough about our minds to really understand.
Ultimately doesn’t matter. Sounds like you have reason to doubt this person. If you can’t or don’t want to disconnect then all you can do is watch their behavior and react accordingly. If they betray your trust it does really matter why they did it.
Good luck, my friend.
I second this. It’s your life and you don’t have to, but it would not be too late to reach out. If you want you can explain that you had to cut ties to get clean. Chances are they had to do something similar and will understand. And you don’t have to jump back into a friendship. Just wishing them well might still be good for both of you.
I like this one. Although having spent a lot of my life in digital logic, gates, ones and zeros… I also hate it.
Further our “singular conscious” is an illusion. People with various types of physical brain damage have had their awareness “split” and had something akin to two different consciouses in their brain. Even for “normal” people there are independent processes running in our brain. Our consciousness is in charge sort of the way the teacher is in charge of the nursey school. It might decide when recess is but it can’t stop that one kid from just singing for no reason.
Also to your point I think that if we could transplant a head we’d find that our sentience involves more than the brain. I think we underestimate how connected all of our systems are.
You’re not supposed to watch it sober.
Sure, but on a per delivery basis that should be like $1.00? And yes, they need to make a profit, so the fee should be $1.10?
