Unfortunately if the U.S. gets really bad, everywhere will get really bad. If Trump does putin’s bidding, then it will creat power vacuums around the world and will lead to wars. Leaving might be less safe than staying.
Or it won’t be as bad as predicted and it will just be very bad. Then I’m not sure.

4 is honestly my preference. I don’t see the need to defederate from instances that federate with Threads. Facebook can bootstrap their product with federated content made by users who are in the fediverse because they don’t want to support a company like Facebook. By not defederating, you would be helping Facebook every time you post a comment or make a post because you would be giving Facebook free content to further their for-profit goals.
Facebook will also be taking fediverse content and displaying it next to ads.

That same strategy can be used to police the fediverse. If policing is possible, then the last panel of the comic is possible.
They could defederate servers that don’t do exactly what they want and servers that are defederated might capitulate. The last frame is very possible and we’ve already seen it start to happen with thedonald on shitjustworks.
