You agree that tagging the username of a mod (wasn’t even one it was an admin) is doxxing? If so, you’re delusional.
Mod names are visible by default on my instance so if taking a look there and then mentioning the username you see there is doxxing good luck with the rest of your life. You can’t have a system where everyone can easily find out who performed a mod action and then claim you were “doxxed”
To quote the reason why calling out mods by name is forbidden from a previous encounter I had with them: “removed for doxxing”
So yeah I think you’re giving them too much credit here
The lemmy docs are all a mess. Try writing something that uses the lemmy api and you start crying because looking up the endpoints in the code tells you what it does faster than their ‘documentation’
It’s usually the cache after the dns making you think it was the cache all along when it’s just still hanging onto messed up dns data

Just my two cents but if you decide to go for the self hosted GitLab approach I think Forgejo might be a better fit. It’s not as resource intensive as GitLab is but has all of the essential features you’d need from a forge.

Navidrome is a subsonic server, feom the cursory research I did before setting it up it is also among the best supported/developed ones available.
They did start a cloud service for hosting Gitea which introduces a direct incentive for them to make Gitea less hosting friendly by, for example, making newly added configuration options less comfortable to set up. And more recently some changes to code contributions that are not exactly community friendly (as a result forgejo will be unable to upstream some of their changes)
What lead to Forgejo, as far as I am aware, was less a problem that is already there and more the set of problems that have a very high chance of eventually manifesting, at which point forking the project would be too late.
wow what a shitshow. I’m really not well versed in who the tachiyomi devs are but just blindly following copyright notices, then only explaining firther upon prodding (with the result being a seemingly flimsy takedown request) on top of restrict8ng 3rd party addons leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Any of those individually already would bit this leaves a “trying to suck up to corpos” bad tase for me.
Edit: not sure exactly how the extensions get disabled but the two from the mentioned repo still work for me after a force stop of tachiyomi so just being an unofficial extension might not be enough to deactivate it
I actually bought some games on Steam I already owned on other launchers because while I could set them up via Lutris or the like just hitting “Play” is so much easier it’s unreal. Valve is doing so much to make Linux game as comfortable as possible I don’t even remotely consider buying from anyone else because there it’s a pain in the ass just to get the game running once, never mind keeping it running through updates

At this point in time that conflict has been going on for so long, I have no clue anymore who started it. So all I can do is judge both sides by their current actions without historical justification which, to me, results in fanatical religious fascists fighting fanatical religious fascists with neither side caring for civilian casualties. Not exactly a situation in which I’d support any side tbh.
This may be tough to hear but some poeple don’t give a shit about animals.
Is that arrogant? Fuck yes. Is it hypocritical? From most people, yes. Is it wrong? Lol no, humanity rules over earth and I really don’t see why we should (potentially) torture our own population in experiments rather than species that largely lack self awareness and often have problems with object permanence.
Animals are animals and unless one of them writes me an essay about how all of this is wrong in its own language I won’t change my mind on that. The only species coming even remotely close to us in intellect and mind are dolphins and octopi, neither of which are commonly used for animal trials of anything except puzzles.
Not exactly 100% versed in the matter but I did some fair digging before starting my own instance: In Germany as long as you remove illegal content in a timely manner after being made aware of its existence you should be perfectly fine. That does include making sure the content does not pop up again but imo the entire thing is set up in a way where if you have adequate moderation (which you should anyway) there shouldn’t be anything to worry about legally speaking.
Case in point: feddit.de has not blocked the piracy community (yet)

Started off with just hosting a permanent Minecraft Server on a Raspberry Pi. Later added stuff like Nextcloud or Calibre Web to it and now it’s just a teensy tiny bit out of control (I’m self-hosting a good 2 dozen services now).
Of all the things I have or am self-hosting the Matrix server was the biggest pain in the ass. I seriously hope they streamline that process because as it was it’s too much work for what it does.
well in this particular case it wouldn’t have mattered, I used the username but the admin in question has their clear name set as the display name (which made the whole “doxxing” claim even funnier to me)
