  • Is it hard to imagine noticing that an account you generally trust has voted and matching their vote, even subconsciously?

Not only is it not hard to imagine its easy to imagine the benefits of using this information automatically. I could imagine a client side script which re-ordered content based on who I trusted who had up or down voted it.

So I have users A B C D E F who are known to me who have voted on a given post. D and E are idiots I disregard their votes. F literally hates everything I love so I count his votes inversely. A and B are fantastic I count them x10 I tend to agree with C so I count his x2.

Not only can I potentially re-score threads and comments based on whom I trust I can if I really trust someone’s opinion apply their weights as well, and the weights of the folks upstream.

  • Quora is a very very bad source. You’ll find threads there in support of the flat earth! It’s as real as asking your neighbors knowing that none of them actually know and everyone is just repeating their own anecdotes. I on the other hand quoted UC Davis Veterinary Medicine. All the threats I mentioned are in fact very real.

You offer fanciful counters like the cars won’t be a problem if the driver stops! You are just trying to justify your outdoor cat which will die sooner than mine.

  • It’s weird that you respond to actual information based on what your feels tell you.

There are whole US states that are nothing but rural

There are in fact not. Smaller states still have cities and people tend to be concentrated around those cities ND the very definition of a shit hole state with nothing in it. 85% of its meager population lives in the metro areas surrounding its 5 biggest (for ND) cities. The other 15% live in the other 99% of the state.

Lets look at a population density map to better visualize this. https://www.census.gov/library/visualizations/2021/geo/population-distribution-2020.html

Outdoor cats just don’t live near as long on average. This isn’t about your feels its about reality its about stats.

Regarding the safety of rural areas. Dogs kill cats, cats kill other cats, raccoons kill cats, eagles and other predatory birds kill cats, cars kill cats, eating poisoned nuisance animals kills cats, coyotes kill cats.

  • The original poster was denigrating all pierced women. The person you replied to merely expressed a preference. Semantically I prefer women who don’t have septum or nipple piercings and I’m disappointed so many women have one or the other is the same statement save that it expresses an emotion that the person feels not one he feels THEY should feel. Also its quite possible that more people in his dating pool have this preference than the entire US population because he is liable to encounter and date people in a comparatively small age and culture range on average. I would assume young urban women are more likely to pierce. I think you are more reacting to the negative nature of the parent post rather than the relatively mild statement made by commenter.

  • If you had a preference for dark hair and many dark haired women were going blonde you might be disappointed in a general decrease in women who met your ideal aesthetic. If you aren’t shallow or are shallow but aren’t a beautiful rich Adonis you probably aren’t turning down any dates based on such criteria but mathematically trends which run contra to preference mean a decrease in average fitness according to your own accounting.

Imagine if a huge portion of men were really into boy bands and mullets. The trend would mean that if you selected men based on other more meaningful criteria like financial stability and emotional maturity that you have an increasing chance of a mullet in your future. As critical mullet mass approaches you may feel disappointed at the popularity of the trend.

  • If there is a range of theories about the world say 1 billion different statements and 10 had a very good chance of being true, 100 a reasonable chance and 999,999,890 had a mathematically insignificant of being true say the same probability as my butt-hole being the living embodiment of the universe’s creator, Santa being real, or the Easter bunny being the representative of Satan on earth it would be awfully silly if we talked about a tiny segment of those 999,999,890 as if they might be real only because they are particularly popular.

I don’t describe myself as agnostic towards divine buttholism or Santa I say reasonably that they aren’t true because that is how we describe things without meaningful probability of being true. Similarly there is no reasonable probability in my understanding of the universe having a creator so I confidently describe myself as an atheist.

  • The statement that god doesn’t exist can be best described as dismissal of a class of theories asserted without evidence and thus dismissed without any. People don’t exhaustively examine the universe they examine enough of it to make theories and draw increasingly strong conclusions. Pretending there is no difference between asserting for no reason something is true AGAINST mountains of actual evidence like asserting your particular religions deity is real and drawing strong theories based on reasonable analysis is disingenuous. You didn’t examine every chimney to conclude santa isn’t real and I didn’t examine every iota of the natural world to conclude it doesn’t have a creator. .
