The people who develop lemmy get paid to do so, as stated by iirc Dessalines themselves.
I would put donating to those running instances at the highest priority, because without servers, we have nothing.
I was on reddit once, but now I’m not.
I’m also gk99@kbin.social and gk99@mastodon.world

If I need photos printed, I’ll go to a shop. It doesn’t happen that often and, frankly, inkjets suck so badly that I honestly doubt I’d save time or money owning one. All the headaches I’ve dealt with just trying to print basic stuff like shipping labels and documents disappeared the moment I bought a Brother laser printer.
And we’d still have poultry and fish in the end.
Not the worst thing that a tick could be spreading at all.

If you’d like a PS5 community on a less popular instance, feel free to create one and advertise it to build a userbase.
I, personally, believe communities should be hosted in places with staying power so that they never evaporate into thin air. If an instance I’m signed up for disappears, fine, I can make a new account. If an instance a community is on disappears, that’s way more problematic.
This is the 50s, I think it’d be pretty easy to draw a line from casual racism to white supremacists. A key difference this time is that it’s not just Germans led by one insane man, it’s instead a bunch of redneck prices and conspiracy theorists.
In addition, even if the communities are built around the same content, not every instance is the same. I explicitly avoid lemmy.ml because I’ve seen them ban people for criticizing China’s government and discussing the genocide of the Uyghur people. As such, I appreciate having a lemmy.world variant of this community.
No, federation means we all see the same content regardless of which site we sign up on with the exception of sites that yours may block.
But be wary that lemmy.ml is a tankie instance and the “.ml” stands for Marxism-Leninism. I generally avoid lemmy.ml communities so I don’t get banned for saying “the uyghur genocide is a real thing” or anything.
This wouldn’t go in either
