It’s pretty wild how much they’ll deface themselves to attempt to hold onto their youth, esp when they’ll look much better if they avoided it in the first place. Going to “take a comfort”

So happy to see someone out on the webs that also enjoyed that documentary! It’s an older one, if I’m not mistaken. I really really really enjoyed that one and it gave me a much different perspective on plant life. I still think of some of the stuff i saw on that series.

This is a good practice, i appreciate what you’re doing. If anything, i occasionally like to respond to posts like that in order to set the record straight for other people who may read the comment. Debating or disproving the commenter isn’t necessary as much as putting correct information right there next to their bullshit. Some people might buy their lies or faux good-faith, but anyone on the fence or unsure will hopefully benefit from having the truth repeated right next to the lie/bs.

There are a lot of clichés that may not make a lot of sense at face value. I’ve found some actually go a lot deeper than you expect, or may actually apply on multiple levels. Common wisdom often hits harder than I initially realized as I’ve gotten older…

Edit: and as you comment shows, I’ve also been guilty of straight-up misinterpreting the meanings as well. Literally just the other day i realized that Lifesavers™ candy are supposed to be little life preservers, as one would have on a boat. For whatever reason, i thought they were just making some grandiose claim as brands often like to do… Sometimes our first impressions become our impressions until correction which may not take place for a long time

Exactly this!! The function of appliances hasn’t changed hardly at all since their inception: washers wash, dryers dry, refrigerators cool, ovens/stoves heat. No “smart” capabilities necessary, or at least nothing that simple mechanical controls and switches couldn’t handle.

Nice!! I do remember correctly, then. That was the first time i saw clear root beer…I was intrigued! It was very tasty, that much i definitely remember!

I remember Snapple having a fairly impressive variety of flavors back in the day… Nothing like it is today…and a bit later, all those caps with the free subscription to WebTV lol

Your comment does a pretty good job of illustrating the main reasons: further wealth inequality, difficult housing market, and a crazier society that’s becoming more accepting of school shootings/shootings in general…not to mention climate change, more wars, and batshit politics becoming the norm globally. How bout that response to covid? If anything had ever disgusted me about this country it’s how brazenly people were willing to risk other people’s lives because they couldn’t be bothered to even attempt to be safe or consider others safety. As if i didn’t have enough reasons not to have kids before… it seems almost cruel to bring them into today’s world.

For sure, turning a blind eye to all that and escaping into a relationship and starting a family sounds great. You need a good job to do that…or you and your partner may both need good jobs to do that. Who watches the kids then? How much time will you actually get to spend with them? Are you going to saddle your parents or in-laws with the responsibility of raising them? Day care? What point is there in having children if you’re spending most of your time away from them? Disregard all that of course, if you’re rich ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I just don’t think I’m ready to spend all of my waking hours endlessly trying to produce enough income to maintain all the expenses that come with a family, while still putting aside money for the kids to go to college and a retirement fund to boot.

It would be nice to have a family, i just don’t think it’s practical anymore. I don’t believe it’s the simple choice you make it out to be (at least that’s how i interpreted the last sentence of your comment)
