  • I remind myself of several things: progress is cumulative; it has inertia, meaning that it takes a while to ramp up, but also doesn’t stop immediately when my attention waivers; and success is a spectrum.

Do what you can when you can. Don’t worry about what you’re not doing at every moment - focus those thoughts on planning blocks.

Your normal day should be set up to knock out your task list. And once a week or so, you can sit down to determine what new tasks are needed to support your long term goals.

  • I was 35 when I took over a team of 11 people. Most of them are younger, but a few were older.

It really depends on the people, so your key going forward will be paying attention, making time to talk to them, and following through on whatever you say…so be careful with what you say. It’s okay to not know and have to follow back up.

Time management has been my biggest struggle. Doing the daily job plus having the time and energy to actually manage (by setting expectations, following up, etc.) can be exhausting. One thing at a time - try not to counteract this issue by doing 30 things at once. That’s an easy way to lose track of something.

  • Centralized vs decentralized is a structural decision.

Censorship is what can be done within that structure. Centralized censorship means one group is able to block content, whereas decentralized “censorship” means that you can go to another platform with little to no fuss.

I use quotations because censorship is when you censor someone and stop their message from being seen, which you cannot do in federation. No one is required to megaphone info or opinions they don’t want to share, so it’s not really censorship to block content on your own instance.
