I think part of the motive is to make brigading harder (show if users or bots are colluding to vote things up or down)

this is shitpost 5d chess.
I have to set literally everything up again on a new microSD for my Pi because the apt-get repositories no longer support the Raspbian version I’m on. I’m not mad; good for security to update, but I don’t have half a day free anytime soon for it.
Also the safety was statistically worse for the most part
Haven’t had to email a file to myself since I set up syncthing
It is the aggressive megacolony of fungus embedding its mycelia in the base of the tree
I recently read The Parable of the Sower and it really affected me, both because I felt empathy for the characters and because I saw some uncomfortable parallels in the recent history of our world. I also was disturbed by The Sparrow. Though frankly I wouldn’t recommend it for a lot of reasons. Battle Royale is intensely violent, in a really personal way. For graphic novels, From Hell is a really rough read honestly, but also really interesting
It is nice to generate generalizable code examples, to give me clues how stuff works. I find that my work (marine biogeochemistry) is obscure enough that there’s a certain level where I am still on my own. Which is a good sign for my future employability!
The thing is that the mainstream aspect will burn out, like most fads do, but the people who really love it will keep loving it, and some (usually small) amount of the new influx will also stick around permanently and enrich the community. It’s just about surviving through the fad part that is hard.
Same with leaded gas: it is a wonderful fuel additive; very effective and engines ran so well as they covered the world with lead microparticles. And CFCs: a really great refrigerant but it just also loves reacting with stratospheric ozone! Oddly enough, both commercialized by the same dude https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Midgley_Jr.
I know time is relative but that’s going a bit too far
I feel it’s aged pretty well! Watched it recently
I enjoyed Waterworld (I know it’s 90s, but I feel it gets too much hate). The premise and aspects of the screenplay were ridiculous, but the set design and effects were fascinating, and I was surprisingly invested in the characters. Kevin Costner and the kid had good chemistry. Dennis Hopper was a campy joy to watch as the villain as expected.
The games were absolutely classics as well
If they did that, anyone could spin up an instance and start just fabricating votes and there’d be no way to know
