No one working at the restaurant is analyzing the pixels in a QR code to see if they are in the right spot. A QR looks like a QR code. Show someone 10 QR codes and ask them to pick the one from their restaurant, no way anyone is getting that right based on anything more than dumb luck.

The fake one could even forward on to the normal menu after it does the nasty bits, assuming it’s just installing something that will run in the background. This seems like a great way to get some malware out into the wild, especially if it can’t self-replicate.

  • I watched The Matrix pretty recently, and was like… oh there is a lot of stuff happening right now that starts to fit with this vision of the future (or at least the explanation Morphus gives about the past: https://youtu.be/O5b0ZxUWNf0?si=mw-vVyaziZ0ADjyp&t=115).

We have ChatGPT an every company possible falling all over themselves to make the most advanced AI, Boston Dynamics robots are terrifying, Neuralink to plug in and be the interface between a human mind and a computer, the desperate search for new and better energy source, the metaverse, unreal engine 5 getting us ever closer to lifelike simulations, and governments looking for more and more ways to exercise controls over populations…

  • I played the first one, but lost interest after a while. I went many years without playing much of anything, new BoTW and ToTK got me back into it. I recently was gifted RDR2, as I figured I might like it since it was more of a simulation game like the new Zelda stuff. It was gifted to me on PS4, which I have, but haven’t turned on in years. I’m wondering if I should opt for the Switch version instead… but I got the GTA release for Switch and I hate what they did with the aiming. I couldn’t figure out how to make Vice City play like the PS2 and just got upset and quit. If they did similar stuff to the Switch version of RDR2, I should probably just stick with the PS4.

  • My grandpa lived to 93, lived through the depression, went overseas during WW2, drove a cab and various delivery trucks until he retired. He wasn’t crotchety at all, at least not that I saw, and I spent a good 7 years living just a few blocks away, so I saw him a lot. He was always cracking jokes and singing songs. Before dinner he’d often turn his knife into an instrument (use your palm to hold down the blade end against the edge of the table and flick the handle… Move it in and out to change the tone). When out to dinner he was the one blowing is straw wrapper across the dining area. He’d flop his dentures all around to ways that were silly. He even had an old fart machine made out of some steel wire, a washer, and some rubber bands.

Sometimes he’s say, “people weren’t meant to live this long”, but that’s about as dark as it got and it was normally said in a matter of fact way. He’d usually just say “getting old isn’t for wimps.”
