Additionally in CA, all new homes are being built with solar power, which further increases your ability to charge without fossil fuels.

And in the areas that isn’t true, it’s at least getting groundwork laid down to make it true. An electric car can be powered by renewable energy, a fossil fuel car must be powered by fossil fuels.

There are a lot of steps to solving climate change beyond “buy an electric car”, and you’re right that industrial and commercial pollution accounts for the majority, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be pushing on all fronts.

We’ve already waited way too long to act, we can’t afford as a species to say “well, I’m not going to change my car until the industrial polluters get their shit together”, we have to push in Every possible direction, all at the same time to make progress, and electric cars overtaking fossil fuel cars is a big part of that.

There’s a lot of work to be done globally until electric cars are 100% green, both in terms of power infrastructure and the processes to create them, but there’s no way forward with gas cars, so we need to start moving over as a society now, phasing out the production of gas cars with electric

As for the speed limit comment, that’s a almost a non-issue - practically every car on the road today either has a setting to switch from MPH to KMPH (for digital speedometers) or for analogue speedometers it will generally tend to show both. At that point you don’t need a frame of reference, just make the number on your dashboard <= the number on the sign. That’s it. Though as you say, it would almost certainly be a case of both units being on all the signs for a long while.

hell, you don’t even have to go back to 1972. I remember in my area growing up (90’s), breaking 100 was something that would maybe happen one or two days out of a whole summer, and it was a whole thing - treated in the same way you might treat a really bad storm in winter.

And ultimately it’s easy to get people to (especially conservatives, who - by definition - are resistant to change) not believe in climate change, because it’s scary as fuck, and because solving it will involve huge overarching societal changes. That’s not just climate change, that’s just how the human brain likes to deal with unpleasant facts - hell, that’s how most people cope with the concept of their own mortality

I don’t think 3 monitors qualifies necessarily as “too many” under what I was saying before - I also have 3 monitors, one ultrawide and two portrait monitors on either side. I can see everything I need with only miniscule head movements, and I make a point of keeping my main focus work on the center display, to avoid neck strain.
