No that option doesn’t exist in Lemmy for now.
No that option doesn’t exist in Lemmy for now.
They are different servers in the same datacenter and there is overlap in the teams.
Well you say that but we have plenty of sysadmins who applied and most of us are it professionals already doing this as a hobby project. I think we tackled that in our most recent announcement. If that is not for you that is fine.
The donations to mastodon.world are shared with those to lemmy.world. LW admin Ruud has been very open in his near-monthly blogs: https://blog.mastodon.world/
These blog posts are also announced on Lemmy World. I think it is all pretty clear.
Who you are talking about is indeed an option because he was genuinely pissed off… He created scripts to create thousands of communities so we set up rate limits 😁 But there are plenty more who don’t want LW to succeed. Be it banned users, defederated instances or just someone with too much time looking to take down the biggest instance.
There was also a (now banned) reddit mod who used to moderate gamingcirclejerk there and she demanded me to hand over the gamingcirclejerk community on LW to her. To just take it from the current team. I said no but I can be a middleman but she wanted none of that. She wanted the red carpet laid out ‘because reddit mod’ so she had the right to it 🙄 She was also a very known user on an instance we recently defederated with.
So just wanted to clear that up here. We have suspicions but no proof. Thanks for your support 🫶
You bet, LW ain’t going anywhere.
Coincidentally after our Outage announcement we didn’t get attacked for the rest of the day and night.
And fellow photon supporter 🫡
That’s possible because those requests are being blocked to non-logged-in users.
Yes I have been using Hetzner for over 20 years so I was happy to find out Ruud chose them for LW too :)
Could be that the IP you are using was used for something else before… Before it was thrown back in the pool and assigned to you.
LW is also hosted at Hetzner btw.
That is now a viable option since join-lemmy has finally updated with more instances. Before it was the same 6…
No this is done on the webserver not in Lemmy. And these are not “instances” specifically these are IP’s who are overloading the API’s with expensive requests.
Well he didn’t implement IP bans on his instance I bet. The reason I asked for this information is so I could check if your IP ended up on our banlist or check if it was marked as inactive.
Technically that should work.
And the reason I asked for your instance name is so we could check this in our db table or check if your instance IP didn’t end up on our banlist.
Yeah it’s command line and python so definitely not suited for everyone. It’s why I point out that the Sync dev is working in it. All of it is just growing pains…
There are tools out to help you (at least partly) migrate your account. It won’t migrate your posts and comments but it will migrate your subscriptions.

Also !syncforlemmy@lemmy.world is working on implementing this feature.
Congrats mate 👏🏻👏🏻 Thanks for everything you do with your instance and with fediseer.
