  • We already know how to create plastics from CO2 extracted from the air and hydrogen from water. There is no shortage of raw material for plastics. The main question for the industry is cheap plastics and the answer to that has always been cheap oil and gas.

    Using proven reserves and current consumption you get to 47 years and things run out. That’s a “within my lifetime” number for many.










  • If history is anything to go by, the English speaking world runs into some trouble. Nothing much new comes out in English while somebody else becomes dominant in research and publishes in their language. That’s getting picked up in academia and politics and if anyone wants to be up to date, they learn that language. The other language now starts to distribute their movies exposing more people who pick up that language and spreading from there.

    Sure, that can take a few generations. It’s not like everybody just decided to switch right now









  • Like if you’re writing an essay on paper. You have your desk covered with a reference book or two, your draft version, working version, assignment, additional clarifications and notes, … It would be such a hassle to put it all in one neat stack and search for whatever you need every time.

    So programmers like to have the programming manual, design, notes, remarks from the customer, … spread out over the screen(s) instead of switching back and forth every time.
