How long? A week? More?
Wait, if you’re a Republican and you’re admitting that Republican politicians don’t have critical thinking ability, then why are you still voting for having them run a country and affecting the livelihoods of millions (billions) of people?
If the only Republican policies you’re supporting are benign ones (as a non-American, I don’t know which those are), are they worth all the ones that oppress and take away the rights of others?
And if you’re a Republican but not a fan or voter of the Republican party as it stands, then maybe you need to reconsider what your definition of a Republican is, because Republicans themselves today are defining themselves in ever-bolder terms.
The two examples in your later paragraph are wholly different cases: the second is a completely different use-case and the first one is actually less morally unambiguous than you think.
But even people who like making stuff would be able to devote more time to their work if they were given the means to sustain themselves through their work without needing to work another job, wouldn’t they?
On the other hand, what’s the harm of a content warning? If you feel like you’re okay clicking on something you’ve been warned about, you’re not any worse off.
Number 4 also seems like basic etiquette to me. You can’t always downvote and move on if someone decides to be a dick and hits home. Why blame the victim and not the perpetrator? There’s no reason to be uncivil to begin with.
The main question for this argument that piracy does a lot of good is: are the people who are pirating things using it for this purpose? I don’t think there’s an ethical conflict for me to say that I am happy for piracy to exist for software that is otherwise unplayable, but think that piracy should not exist for new games that just come out.
Someone quoted a study that within the first 14 years is where most of the profitability comes from. Maybe I’d be okay with people pirating anything that’s been around for 14 years, but I think most people who keep using this “pirating is good” line won’t agree with this compromise.
The mother gave birth to them. If that’s the thing that confuses you I don’t know what else to say.
Yeah, kinda puts paid to the idea that piracy is about sustainable, non-DRMed software for all when the one company whose niche is ensuring that such resources are available is being undermined like this.
