Same reason people buy land and build a house on it: It is in their control. If I host my content on some plattform, I have to bow to their TOS/Tracking/Changes and am more like a tolerated tennant. But they are the HOA that can tell me what they want and do not want regarding content, frontend and backend. I also most possible have to allow them to use my work for their own benefit. If it is free, maybe they profit from you.

People do not get that having your own URL, your own Email and your own Websites, was the most common thing in the past. I staked my claim like the settlers going west. I own my acre of digital Land. I am free to do what ever I want on my property and nobody can take it away as long as I pay 5$ a year for the domain. That is 50$ in 10 years. That is 400$ for my whole life. For a place that I call mine. My digital Landscape. This is my space. There are many spaces out there, but this is the acre I am gonna develop.

Of course I could rent a room in the city by giving away my privacy or the control. And there are many good reasons to do this. But having your own piece of the internet is what makes me feeling more like a part of that net and not just be a cow in someone else shed.

How come every 3 weeks there is a news that nitter is now dead, and then I go to the Nitter Instance Health Monitor, pick a random instance, and am still able to surf tweets?

Eher umgekehrt. Der Grund dass man von Mastodon auf Lemmy posten kann, liegt daran, dass Lemmy diese Funktion anbietet. Mastdon bietet es aktuell aber keinem anderen Ferdiverse System an, auch umgekehrt diese Funktion zu bekommen. Mastdon möchte das nicht. Mastodon ist der Spalter.

Das Ordnungsgeld am Samstag Glas rechtswidrig einzuwerfen ist genau das gleiche wie unter der Woche nach 18 Uhr. Ich stehe auch so mit einem Bein im Ordnungsamt-Gefägnis. Nur dass ich schön klimpernd mit dem Fahrrad mein Altglas nun auch auf dem Fahrrad mit zur Arbeit nehmen kann.

Mein Glascontainer erlaubt nur unter der Woche von 10-18 uhr. Ich muss Mittags von der Arbeit heim fahren oder frei nehmen damit ich Glas entsorgen kann. Deswegen werfe ich Samstags ein und wenn mich jemals jemand drauf anspricht, wird er die komplette wut auf diese Regelung zu hören bekommen. Los, trau dich! TRAU DICH!

How is that the same than a favorite? I can also use a searchengine to find a website, but a bookmark is sometimes better. I can also search through all tweets on twitter, but having some marked as favorites come in handy sometimes. I use favorites and save lists in youtube quite a lot. Even though I could use the yt search bar each time.

Does Discord now offer the ability to save/fav comments to find them again? When I used it the last time, i was amazed how everything just scrolls by without a possibility to hold on to something.
