Stone paths. I was hiking in a large state park recently and came on a stretch of path that a seriously skilled stonemason built. It was beautiful. I stood there for ten minutes looking at how perfectly they matched the stones together.

Easy to see anecdotally, hard to define quantitatively. Reddit is never going to publicize that sort of thing as a metric: “ratio of bot activity to subscribed member activity” would be great but we’ll never see those numbers.
Their user numbers are available with a web search. Reddit useage dipped towards end of June but has mostly leveled out.
Quite a few mods left, which has had a larger impact than an equal number of general users leaving would. The niche topic sub I was involved in went from four mods to one half-hearted mod. The quality of posts has dropped. Almost every comment thread contains complaints. Reports are piled up.
Most surprising to me when I peeked at the sub this weekend was the amount of borderline-incel desperation and negativity. The sub is for a hobby that while slightly male majority, we had plenty of women contributing with minimal problems. Not anymore. If I were a woman looking at that sub for the first time, I would probably block it. It is so depressing and angry now, I barely recognize it.

COVID was just the cherry on top for dropping my aunt. My cousin, who was previously her favorite and who’s wedding she fully supported, was suddenly a “gay pervert”. I am still baffled by how quickly and thoroughly she became a bigoted nutjob.
There are many types of intelligence. I wouldn’t want to be the most intelligent across all categories. Something would be seriously broken if that were the case.
Same as I’ve been doing since he won last time. Stay in my more liberal home state, extend understanding to friends and relatives who live in conservative states, extend invitations to the few who might need to move to keep themselves safe. Keep donating and volunteering with the organizations I’ve been supporting.
I have a friend who is thinking about seeking asylum in the US. I have encouraged her to weigh her other options; there are other countries where she has friends and family that might be more welcoming to her. If Trump gets elected, I’m not sure she’ll even have a viable path to the US.
