    Ppl: Uh um, well…

Salmon: How did you know pink was my favorite color!

    ppl: Uh, what?

Salmon: Yeah! All the prettiest flowers are pink! I also like the sense of calm the color instills, the feminine yet loud conveyance, the fact that it’s the color of my birth stone…

ppl: oh, well, that’s pretty cool

Salmon: And the fact that it reminds me of the blood of my enemies, and awakens my chaotic and violent nature upon seeing it!

The purpose of many memes is to make your pov seem more relatable. Even OP’s meme is an example of this. Then you have the comment section, which serves to reinforce relatability of the meme, and then the upvotes which are a digital “amem” or “yeah”.

So in a way, memes on redditlike sites are more or less a propaganda machine with a feedback system built in. Want to push a political pov with little effort, and an automatic way of gauging popularity while showing users “See! I’m not the only one!” Post a meme with a political message tied to it.

Also, a lot of people seem to call anything they don’t agree with “political” as well, so sometimes a harmless meme about being gay gets grouped with a meme about eating the rich.

The point is as long as people have different point of view, memes pages are always going to seem political. Combine that with the fact that lemmy.ml tends to be more leftist than reddit politically, it might come to a shock to a lot of libertarian mind refugees who are used to their humor being accepted, or leftists who are shocked by the kind of content they’re seeing on their front page.

There are several different memes spaces on the fediverse. The only real solution I can give is to block the ones that don’t meet your standards, and build up the ones that do. Considering the different natures of each instance, I’m surprised each one doesn’t have its own active meme page.

  • You’re talking to a site with many former redditors who left a lot of comfort and communities behind to tell the reddit staff they can’t get any with infringing on users’ safety, comfort, and accessibility. afaic they are superior cause by simply being here, helping fediverse grow, and interacting with reddit as little as possible, they are sending that message louder and clearer than any of the redditors who caved in their protests and remained.

I shit on former redditors a lot. I complain about some of the culture they dragged along with them that is neither conductive or helpful to creating meaningful conversation. I even complain sometimes this place can feel a lot like reddit at times. But if there is one thing I can say about much of the former reddit community here is they are people of their convictions. Their integrity meant more to them than the comfort they enjoyed on the former site.

It hasn’t been doing that for me though. Like I’ll go to the community, and it will not be there. Either that or it won’t be visible or interactible to me.

Like I can see and interact with my lemmy account, but not on my kbin threads outside of seeing it from the profile.
