I understand you’re fed up with all the sync bs. I just think we have to try to turn this in/to a way everybody gets better from it.
The reddit refugees are happy because “this feels just like home”, they(we) don’t care it’s 20 bucks!
The og Foss crowd grumpingly :) accepts the higher amount of contributions which stems from that. (this is the point we’ve to drive home to ljdawson(sync dev)
And we all benefit because the fediverse grows and keeps growing, more content, more everything. Shiny beautiful future, end to war and world hunger, beginning of a new era where humanity reaches for the stars or dies because of a rogue AI or because of a runaway greenhouse effect.

So… Let’s extend that courtesy to everyone, all right?
Because a “nobody asked about your opinion” stance is a sure fire way to end any discussion platform. Like lemmy.
What I do think that Mr. Dawson should do is direct a percentage of that sweet sync income at lemmy.world and the lemmy devs. That would end or at least lessen this discussion.

Tbh, I don’t care for open or closed source, I don’t even care for free or payed. (19 bucks per year… That’s like what, a coffee and a donut at a Starbuck?)
Stuff must just work and to be honest… All available clients all work sort of.
This one does this good but sucks at multi instances. That one screws up gifs from that and this site. Made an error typing your user name!/password during setup? Tough shit. You can’t edit it so redo from start, remove it and type well this time.
Sync just seems to work.
That’s not to shit on anyone hard work: I can’t do it, I can’t make them, I’m glad these clients exist. I don’t expect free tools to be perfect.
But I’m also superglad Sync for lemmy is a thing. And I will pay for it when it’s out of beta.
Actually, if you would go and watch the barbie movie instead of bitching about it you would find a very good Oscar worthy movie which humorously points out several flaws in our current society hiding in plain sight.
And truly, what or who is bigger then oppenheimer in modern history? The man literally changed the world and is more or less the reason behind the longest period of peace in the west and beyond. It turned out that fear, deterrence, is the only thing that keeps war away.
They got that message loud and clear in Iran and Northern Korea. Especially after what happened in Libya and Syria.
Anyway, politic bullshit aside so far 2023 is, I think, a very good year for cinema.
Next to that I’ve seen this meme repeat itself yearly over the last five years. It’s getting tiresome. It’s time to think up a new one.
141·1 year agoThey’re not the same. They’re not “the same coin”. Not even close. They’re not even each others opposites, they can’t be since they’re very different things.
I had typed a lengthy response but in the end I just advise you to read up before you use these words.
After doing that, you should also look at the Scandinavian states and decide for yourself if those are socialists, capitalist or something in between. And if you come to the conclusion that they’re leaning more to socialism(guided market) then anything else then look for signs of fascism in their government since you state “they’re the same coin” then there must be something.
Now look for those same signs in the recent history of the US. You should at least find: a wall, “America first” and a storming of the symbol of government and embodiment of democracy. Now look for signs of socialism in the US society.
4 years ago all was good in Airbnb land in the EU. I used it to plan vacations, meet cool people (hosts) and find those more and more hard to find “off grid” places here.
Now they’ve become way overpriced. I tried it this year again it was just costs, added costs, more costs, more rules etc.
It was easier and cheaper to just find vacation stays through the old channels like booking.com.

I also agree with you that a fetus is not a child. And that abortion is not evil or bad.
