  • Well, I don’t think anyone is really sure just how exactly time travel can mess with stuff. I would probably take a page from some time travel movie I saw. I would want to avoid any sort of temporal paradox and avoid too many changes.

So, I would probably remove myself from the equation as much as possible. Go to a hotel or somewhere where I can avoid accidentally running into anyone I might know. Leave all electronics behind, but take a book or something. Spend the whole day avoiding TV/News/People and just reading or work on perfecting a skill. At the end of the day I would call up a broker from the hotel room and find out which stock had the greatest percentage gain that day. Just enough information for one good trade.

Then I would go back to that morning, buy up a ton of that stock, live out life normally, then sell the stock at the end of the day.

Rinse and repeat for a short time.

I would absolutely avoid something like winning the lottery, but for those of you who would use time travel to win the lottery, you might want to follow the advice from this comment here: https://old.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/24vo34/whats_the_happiest_5word_sentence_you_could_hear/chb38xf/

  • All ice cream (and related desserts) will get harder as they get colder.

It feels like you’re comparing ice cream/desserts that are completely frozen to ice cream/desserts that are partially frozen, which is not what this post is about…

Although if the ice cream does get slightly liquidy before re-freezing, it will be much harder than it was before. This is why one of the most important factors when making ice cream is to continually mix up the ice cream while it freezes.

  • This sounds like what TOR users run into. Are you always clearing your browsing data/cookies in Firefox? A fairly blank slate there will raise some red flags in a lot of systems causing the captchas to be aggressive.

Otherwise, maybe you just ended up with a bad IP address that was previously being used for suspicious bot looking traffic?

I would definitely submit a ticket to Etsy about this issue, but this is likely an issue with captcha or whatever they’re using to detect “suspicious activity”.

Edit: I just tried logging in to Etsy and it gave me about 4 captchas for signing in with a “new device”.

Looks like google really needs help training their self driving cars.

  • There’s a place for AI in NPCs but developers will have to know how to implement it correctly or it will be a disaster.

LLMs can be trained on specific characters and backstories, or even “types” of characters. If they are trained correctly they will stay in character as well as be reactive in more ways than any scripted character could ever do. But if the Devs are lazy and just hook it up to ChatGPT with a simple prompt telling it to “pretend” to be some character, then it’s going to be terrible like you say.

Now, this won’t work very well for games where you’re trying to tell a story like Baldur’s Gate… instead this is better for more open world games where the player is interacting with random characters that don’t need to follow specific scripts.

Even then it won’t be everything. Just because an LLM can say something “in-character” doesn’t mean it will line up with its in-game actions. So additional work will need to be made to help tie actions to the proper kind of responses.

If a studio is able to do it right, this has game changing potential… but I’m sure we’ll see a lot of rushed work done before anyone pulls it off well.
