When I read about Neo-(x-political-term) I generally think of new ideas around it, not ideas reaching back to WWII.

Everything was new at some point. Things are named relative to when they happen, not relative to when you hear about them.

Just as soon as it stops negatively effecting everyone’s lives all the time.

Yet the solution is so simple. Let the them spend 20 – 35 % of their paid time on backlog. Let them refactor the architecture. Let them improve the code base. You know, that thing the Lean book talks about, the part that everyone overlooks, the part so critical yet so often overlooked that others wrote books that ride that one aspect home.

But why do that when instead you can just pretend those issues don’t exist (or simply fail to understand them) and secure a bonus/promotion/personal favour by cutting “unnessecary” labour costs then celebrate by burbling on about how capitalism “maximises efficiency”.

That’s really poor moderation. Do you have the details of where to look to see it all?

I just can’t understand how people can notice and be bothered by black bars but not a horribly distorted picture (or even having half the image cropped away.)

Zoom or stretch depending on which one the viewer prefers.

Personally either drives me nuts.

In case you aren’t joking, a video in the original 4:3 format can be zoomed in to watch it in 16:9 cropped or stretched to 16:9. But a video that has already been stretched usually can’t be destretched and one that has been cropped cannot be zoomed out.

And I can’t stand content that has cropping baked in. At least in theory you can zoom in on uncropped content.

I think something like “taps elbow” would be funnier.

I would expect that 99% bits of your app that talk to the API can be the same for both, you just need to maintain slightly different code for interacting with each actual API.

In fact scrolling further through the comments I see that not only is this how @hariette is handling it for Artemis but she’s also looking at making the talking to both APIs bit of the code available to other devs.

If you’re in the UK, next-time you’re forced to do a cull, try to see if you can find (or just start) a Bookcycle/Shelfcycle nearby. There aren’t many yet but they’re growing. It’s a charity explicitly designed to do a better job of valuing donated books than existing infrastructure. They worked out that places like schools in developing worlds can often make great use of the books that other charity shops would destroy because they don’t sell quickly in UK charity book shops. So Bookcycle sells the ones that would to raise funds to send the ones that wouldn’t as a donation to communities that would value them. They try really hard not to destroy any book that someone might still find value in somewhere.
