  • I use chrome for work because it’s installed on every computer we have and the machines are locked down so I can’t install firefox if I wanted to. I move around between stations all the time so logging in and having all my bookmarks, passwords, history, etc… synced is convenient. I use firefox at home but most people just stick with what’s familiar to them. It’s a solid browser feature-wise and that’s what most people care about.

  • Had he just quietly let the protest pass by without throwing a tantrum I’d probably still be using reddit.

Honestly, if reddit has just been upfront and said “we need to consolidate where people browse our site on mobile for our IPO”, people would still have been annoyed but i don’t think all the drama would have taken place. The issue was really just in the way that the management handled the situation by giving devs a “fuck you” API pricing and acting like TPA devs were being unreasonable for not wanting to pay the ridiculous fees. If they had just been upfront and honest then I don’t think I’d be here on lemmy.

I’ve tried firefox but there’s one main issue that I haven’t been able to find a way around. I have a macbook from work and am able to switch between full screen applications with control+left/right arrows or swipe gestures which I use all the time. When I open Firefox in full screen, it seems to lock itself as the full screen application. Anyone know if there’s a way to prevent that? It’s really annoying and just messes with my entire workflow. It’s literally the only reason I haven’t made the switch yet.

Idk, LJ doesn’t have a boss that takes a portion of the profits he generates. Extraction of surplus labor is the cornerstone of capitalism. But this isn’t really the place to get into a deep discussion about regardless. I don’t think it’s profiteering either to charge an amount that provides you with a living wage. Sync for reddit had orders of magnitude more users than the Lemmy version so of course he’ll need to charge more on Lemmy to keep doing it full time.

  • Tantacrul is in charge of the UI/UX design now and his involvement is easily one of the best things to happen to musescore imo. It’s actually super competitive to other scoring software now. Not that musescore was bad before, it was just super janky with some features. He said he’s working on a redesign for audacity too which should be interesting.

  • Sync as far I can tell is the only thing so far to bring an openly capitalist approach to lemmy

Sync’s pricing is inherently socialist. LJ owns his own labor and is able to decide what is done with it. If you don’t want to pay then cool, there are plenty of other options.
