Why do they do this?!?

I guess its either:

• they think it will improve sales because the second hand market for “code in a box” is small
• they think it will cost sales but by less than the money they save by not manufacturing game cards
• they don’t know if either is true but they are willing to experiment to find out.

When its some regions only like this is feels like a/b testing. And to be honest its a pretty safe play for them because the die hard physical fans will just order internationally.

They’ve released 22 video games over the last 40 years, they may have slowed a little in recent decades but they never really stop.

I would love a competently made The Patrick Star Show game, but unfortunately most Outright Games titles fall short of “competent”.

With a different rainfall profile the nutrient loss would have been vastly reduced.

Fun fact: The ecosystems of the Amazon Basin rely on around 27.7 million tons of Saharan Dust each year to replace the phosphorus that is washed away by the rains. Without this constant input of nutrients the local soils would have been stripped of needed nutrients and would be unable to support the plants that currently thrive there.

Exactly, those two are pretty standard.options.

As far as door latches go the cross bar and draw bolts probably predate it by thousands of years but I don’t use those regularly.

As physical tech:

• we have lever door handles at work and wheel and axle door knobs at home.

As digital tech:

• Comma Separated Values as a notation predates computers. Then CSV has been used as a computer file format at least since one of the Fortran variants added support in 1972.

• The implementation has changed as filesystems evolve but the basic directory/file model of data storage and the associated tools ls/dir, cd, rm/del have been around a while. ls has been known by that name since Multics in 1969, but can trace its lineage back to listfon CTSS in 1961.

Anything that predates copy/paste is doing alright.

I felt the same at launch with Breath of the Wild.

I would have been happy to play a more powerful hardware variant that focused on being a home console. Instead Nintendo offered more portable versions :/

I find buying vouchers brings the per-title cost down to au$67.5.

In comparison Sony is charging au$125 for a 1st party title like the last of us part 1 so Nintendo feels like they are priced competitively.

I think P-M CE2+ 2P is what your looking for.

Edit: I have loved CE since its 2006 launch and was not that impressed by the modes added for CE2 so I ignored CE2+ as more of the same. It looks like its discounted at the moment so I might see if I can get a two player game going over the weekend.

Having control over the UI helps. I never want to see “shorts” on start-up but its also nice to have control over share/cast buttons, do I care about up/down votes? Auto play or next video recommendations?

Then there are options to skips youtube ads (by just not loading them) and sponsor segments (by using sponsor block).

Continued playback with a locked screen can be handy sometimes too.

A lot of the UI is designed to encourage user engagement and monetize that engagement. My priorities differ.

Some of these features are available with YouTube Premium but that’s comically over priced (and still doesn’t offer as much control). The Family plan is currently around 150% the price of Netflix Premium :/
