  • The best advice here is to just not buy new. You can get a refurbished laptop from trusted sellers that will definitely exceed the requirements for under $200. If you are willing to spend up to $300 then there is literally no concerns.

For example here is a DELL Latitude 7490 Laptop Intel Core i5 8th Gen 8250U (1.60GHz) 16GB Memory 256 GB SSD Intel UHD Graphics 620 14.0" Windows 10 Pro for $192 on Newegg.

If you don’t like Newegg there are tons of other stores that offer refurbished laptops. I assume you are in the USA and stores you can consider are Target, Walmart, Best buy.

There is very little risk with refurbished laptops. They are usually tested before being shipped out and if you buy from a legit company they usually offer some kind of store warranty. Walmart for example offers a 90 day return policy for any reason.

It’s hard to make suggestions on which laptop to get since availability plays a bigger role here. So just look around at your desired budget and pick what you think your kid needs.

If you think your kid won’t accept a laptop that has a scratch, simply look for “As New”. Then there usually aren’t any visible damages. But if you are fine with some cosmetic damage you can get real bargains.

  • Every country has lots of struggles. There are a few European cities I would consider close to perfect but when leaving said cities things can become more difficult in the same country. Vienna and Copenhagen might be my two favorites. Rent is still fairly affordable in both cities especially given the available salaries. Both have great public transportation, lots of green spaces, good access to education and healthcare, and a healthy entertainment sector. Both countries are doing fairly decent overall. Denmark is probably ahead of Austria because Austria has a bigger right-wing. So by extension I would say Denmark might be as close as it gets.

Obviously there will be a few smaller towns that are even better but they are too small to consider.

When talking about a whole country a lot of it comes down to personal ranking on what you consider important. When leaving central & northern Europe the relative income drops significantly in most other nations. Which would matter for some as it affects the possibility of traveling, while for other it doesn’t.
Many of the pacific island nations have a surprisingly high standard of living despite poverty being an issue. But even if you don’t care about money and would rank the relaxed living there over the working culture in Europe there is another issue that affects some. Abortion is illegal in most of them, it’s usually allowed for medical reasons, especially if the life of the pregnant woman is in danger. But for some the lack of access to abortion would totally dismiss these countries from consideration while others prefer them for it.
Singapore could rank very high but the fact that there is the death penalty for drug related crimes is a huge red flag for many. But again, others even agree with it.

  • With some dried fruits you just need to be a bit careful as they can really speed up your digestive system if you eat too many of them. Dried plums and apricots are the main culprits for me. They are so delicious and I could eat 10 or more in one go. Treat them as fresh fruit and eat 1-3 at a time and you will be fine.

Also get non sulfured variants. They don’t look as nice and don’t last as long but the taste is so much better.

  • Canned fruits are often placed in a ton of syrup and sugar. So they aren’t all that great for you. Even if you don’t drink the syrup.

Canned vegetables on the other hand are perfectly fine and no different from frozen vegetables. There are rarely preservatives added since the heat and vacuum is enough to keep them from spoiling.

It’s important to buy just vegetables. If you buy pre-made canned food then the quality drops significantly due to the amount of sugar, salt, and fats added. So canned peas are fine, canned pea soup not so much.

Canned vegetables have a worse reputation than deserved and it mostly comes from taste rather than health issues.

But mixing up your diet is never a bad idea. So instead of just going canned goods you can consider dried goods. Dried fruits don’t have the same issue as canned fruits while still having a long shelf life. There are dried apple or banana chips, dried plums, mangos, apricots, also nuts and seeds are great alternatives.

And even dried vegetables are an option. They require a little bit more planning because some of them need to be soaked over night. And beans usually need to be cooked in addition to the soaking as they are poisonous otherwise. But not all dried vegetables need soaking, lentils can be cooked immediately. And offers, such as dried peas can even be eaten as snack in dried form.

  • Pizza predates tomatoes coming to Italy. There is a 2000 year old fresco that has a pizza in it (without tomato sauce obviously). Tomatoes made it to Italy around 500 years ago.

And there are still pizzas today that use a different base for their sauce than tomatoes. But taste is subjective so it’s hard to say if those are “the best”.

But you will struggle coming up with examples of others countries as well. There are few countries that invented something and are still the best at. So much stuff was just invented so long ago. The only county where this is somewhat easy is the US with some technology.
