Once, 2ish years ago I think by now? I was trying to clean up all the shit I installed to compile something because it wasnt available on apt, had a repository, or had a .deb (I was on ubuntu at the time).

I mistyped something and ended up removing Python. Got no warning, no red text, no nothing. It just uninstalled it as if it was nothing.

I rebooted, and learned that a lot of fucking shit depends on python. because I no longer had a DE and could only boot into a terminal. after 2 hours of trying to unfuck it, I just used a live cd to save what files I could and reinstalled.

Oh, and I never got the program compiled and working. and never tried again on the fresh install. I dont even remember what it was now. Something for gaming, probably.

  • Except it kiiiinda is. Cause look at the number of charges on both sides, and you’ll see an egregious swing to the right.

no matter how much you want to push the whole “both sides are the same” shit.

The only way you can push the both sides of are the same shit is by massively and disproportionately blowing up what the left does, and minimizing to outright ignoring what the right does.

Also, left tends to hold itself accountable to corruption and bad behavior, Meanwhile the right… well, Do I even need to state the obvious?

same. I have over a thousand games on my steam account and a humble bundle subscription.

I can wait years to pick up the all DLC included gold game of the year edition for 5 bucks on sale.

only time i ever get games on release anymore is if a friend gifts it to me, or if it comes as part of a bundle with new hardware (Like how I got Starfield with my new GPU)

    1. Yes, like people often do on social media.
    2. You didnt have to use your real name on social media until relatively recently, and depending on platform.
    3. Yes, Like I said, filters.
    4. Both are persistent, and both have breaking news
    5. People who want everyone to know their personal updates, post them everywhere.
    6. There is tons of social networking on sites like reddit, Lemmy probably less so. but only because its relatively recent in the zeitgeist.

Disagree, politely… Not in the “OMG INTERNET DISAGREEMENT I HOPE YOUR MOTHER GETS FUCKED BY A HORSE!” way.

Reddit/Lemmy/Etc are nothing more than slightly more elaborate twitter with better filtering/catagorization. Social media all the way down.

But its its not a major issue, so its not like we need to invest time in a slapfight over whose wrong and whose right.

I view forums as the middle era of the internet.

Th early era was chatrooms, the middle era was forums, and the late era, which we are in now, is all social media.

I miss the middle era of the internet. Forums were a blast. You could really build a community with those things.
