IE is still there. You can’t use it anymore but Windows can. I also don’t think they can ever get rid of IE Options - they changed the name to Internet Options but it’s exactly the same and will break so many networks if they ever get rid of it

I’m guessing smoothness doesn’t consider the non-spherical shape of the planet, just the bumpiness of it. But I’m also some random on the Internet, so who knows
I tend to do the same thing. I find it’s very helpful to find other people who enjoy debate, but to keep in mind that we’re the weird ones. Most people find disagreement to be unpleasant and tend to struggle with separating disagreement with an idea and disagreement with a person. My best friend once described me as a good person and a terrible friend - I make it my goal to live up to that.
Actually you meant compliance, security has other random stuff. /s
Nobody’s mentioned it yet so I have to bring up the music video. It removes all the subtitles of the racism. It flashes back and forth between carefully chosen snipits of BLM protests - sometimes as they desolve into riots, sometimes as the police get violent - and scenes of the band playing in front of a court house where a famous lynching happened.
I don’t think they thought too much about the lynching, but I find it hard to believe that in a song so intentionally racially charged nobody glanced at the Wikipedia page for their filming location and thought twice about it.

God can you imagine the shit show if millions had tried to come at once this last time? We’d accidently ddos the fediverse to the stone age.
This has been my experience. I was still using Reddit on my computer and lemmy on my phone until last week. I’m at the point on my computer now that I was at with my phone four weeks ago where it’s pretty much split between them. I really need to figure out a search engine that captures lemmys since I still have to end most my searches with “reddit” to get useful answers.
Edit: I know I can use “site:lemmy.world” but that only searches the one instance
I saw a good breakdown from a critic about how you should perceive tomato ratings. The general idea was that critics have to see any movie that might be popular so are often not the target audience, they also see enough movies that tropes and cliches annoy them faster than the general audience. The conclusion was that you should use the critic rating to get an idea of how novel a movie is, the audience score to see how well it appeals to it’s target audience, and individual critics you’ve agreed with in the past to get an idea of how well you’ll like it.
You could also just install Firefox on your Android. That may not work in the future, but it will continue to work for now
Easy. You just use an ancient electric angle grinder
I read through the article to see if any money was going to gay/trans right activism. If it is the article doesn’t mention it, and it isn’t on their (admittedly not yet filled out) website. Recognition is good in that “acceptance” in capitalism means you think you’ll make more money than non-recognition. But that’s the symptom of things going the right direction, not the cause. If it’s the best seltzer in your opinion go for it, but unless they’re giving back to the community they’re not actually doing anything.

I did a fair amount of hitch hiking along the west coast last summer. A shockingly large number of people in SoCal told me about their 15 minutes of fame. One guy was one of the CGI pirates from pirates of the Caribbean 3, another had done fairly well in some game show I can’t remember, but the wildest was Jake and Logan Paul’s dad. North of the Sierria Nevada those stories dropped off quickly.
How Can Magnets Be Real If Our Eyes Aren’t Real?
We just need to be better about simplifying the explanation. Don’t tell people “it’s a federated website using an activitypub backend to communicate like mastodon, but only links to federated lemmys not including mastodon instances…” Tell them “it’s a fourm that shares posts and comments with other fourms that agree to work together”. If they want more detail they can easily find it themselves.
He was the US secretary of state in the 1970s who finally died today after far too long living free. The 3 page rolling stone article is about as quickly as somebody could summarize his more notable war crimes. Admittedly the article is pretty biased, but also fuck hearing the other side of the story about a man responsible for so much death and pain.
Tldr: he extended the Vietnam war for about 5 years because it benefited him personally, he convinced Nixon to bomb Cambodia and laos which were not involved in any combat with us, he was involved in the coups that overthrew the democraticly elected governments of Peru and Argentina, he encouraged the use of nuclear bombs in battle on numerous occasions, and that’s just for starts. The rolling stone article claims he is indirecty responsible for about 4 million deaths. They don’t list the directly responsible number, but its likely in the one million range.
