I couldn’t stand Linkin Park when they were first getting popular. I felt that they were too edgelord-y for me and wrote them off. Now, I wish I had actually given them a shot earlier on.

Nah, not really. Technically, this is better. But only marginally so, and unless Valve does something catastrophically, egregiously abusive with the Steam platform, then the people who will actually benefit from this are few and far between. Valve wouldn’t just say “come sue us” if they weren’t wholly confident that they weren’t about to be losing any cases any time soon.

This isn’t some huge “win” for the people; gamers aren’t gonna rise up over this. For 99.999% of Steam’s userbase, this is an entirely lateral move. Valve are the only ones who will see any tangible benefit from this.

Because it’s not quite the good-faith gesture people are making it out to be; it’s a cost-saving measure for Valve. From the consumer standpoint, very little actually changes, as the average user isn’t taking Valve to court in the first place. It’s not as if Valve is suddenly lowering their legal funding in conjunction with this move; they’ll still defend themselves harder than most consumers would be able to, and will win their cases in court instead of in arbitration, which is even more costly for the consumer when they lose.

While arbitration favors companies, so do the courts. If anything, this just makes it more cost-prohibitive on the consumer side to make Valve face the law.

I feel like “I’m making a personal choice to pirate because my deliberately-crafted use-case scenario is not being specifically catered to” is a worse argument than “I can’t afford it”.

This is like an F1 racer getting angry at 7-Eleven for not offering fuel that works for his supercar. You’re not being treated as a second-class citizen; you’ve created a situation in which you are above first-class citizens, because you’re using what is, these days, niche and specialized hardware that is far outside of the norm, but for some reason you’re still shopping at the gas station the rest of us peons go to.

Nah he’s just always had no self awareness when it comes to the noises he makes. Lots of loud chewing while you’re trying to eat, grunting and snorting in the middle of a conversation, full-volume “whispering” in movie theaters, etc. He’s not even hard of hearing or anything (dude hears like a bat, honestly), he’s just a very loud guy lmao

My stepdad would eat bananas with his mouth wide open as he chewed. And he’d chew each bite for a solid minute before swallowing. Even though it’s a banana and you can literally just mash it agains the roof of your mouth with your tongue. He would do this as he was driving, so I think he’d just get distracted and forget that he was still chewing food. But it made every ride to school in the morning an absolute living hell.

Mbin is a fork of Kbin. A lot of users have moved from Kbin instances to Mbin, as the Kbin dev has had some personal life issues that have interfered with his ability to reliably work on the project.

I sometimes get fresh tortillas from the grocery store bakery, and the bags they use are the absolute worst. The zip-locks are fine, but the plastic the bag is made of is so thin that it can’t withstand the pressure needed to open the zipper, inevitably tearing the bag open and defeating the entire purpose of the zip-lock.

I’m pretty sure he just hams it up for the camera. I’ve seen some other, “normal” videos with him and he seems like a mostly normal guy, personality-wise. He’s not as flamboyant as his on-screen persona.

The original Kbin dev is Polish, so English is likely a second language for him. Also, it’s still very early in development, so a lot of terminology put in use are likely placeholders until something more natural-sounding could be finalized.

Technically, they do! It’s not fully-integrated yet so the process is a bit hackish, but because the ActivityPub protocol works mostly the same on the backend, content from any of these platforms can appear on the others without much issue.

The biggest issue just has to do with the way you actually interact with each platform may not translate well on another compatible platform. For example, Pixelfed typically nests replies to comments only one layer deep, whereas Lemmy or Mbin will nest many layers deep. The actual nesting still works just fine when you view Pixelfed comments on Lemmy, and if you join in the conversation and reply in the middle of the thread, your post will nest properly for you and will show inline as normal for Pixelfed users. So in some instances, you may need to know a bit about what platform you’re posting to, on top of the platform you’re posting from.

There’s other quirks like Mastodon replies typically being preceded with @ing the user they’re replying to, which isn’t a thing on the Lemmy side of things. It doesn’t really change the way posting works, and you can choose to not do it and things will still work fine.
