Could it be a failing/failed drive? Maybe try making a new bootable flash drive and see what happens.

That’s really good to know. Thanks!
I’ve participated in their SETI and cancer research projects in the past. It’s a good cause, and I don’t mind making a donation.
I did think the BOINC project was shut down, though. Good to know it’s still going.
Thanks, I didn’t know what that tool is called. I don’t find it very useful.
Thanks, I didn’t know what it’s called. I agree that the block editor is unusable. Honestly, it reminds me of GeoCities. I wouldn’t consider it progress.
Gutenberg?
People with nothing to hide? ::duckingandrunning::
But seriously, excellent question. I certainly don’t post anything even remotely controversial from an account with my real name.
Understandable, but if you’re sharing it, it’s not private in that sense anyway. This may be a legitimate use case for GDrive, Dropbox, Box, etc. Or just use sneakernet.
If you prefer Reddit, just go back to Reddit. No need to pollute Lemmy.
This is one reason the tech journalists and other “influencers” whining about the fediverse only gets an eye roll from me. We’re not building this for them. Frankly, if their only goal is an audience for their content, I don’t even want them here.
Good to know, thanks. I generally sort by hand if they need sorting, but using EXIF would be a nice time saver.
I hadn’t heard of Immich. I’ll take a look. Thanks!
Have you looked at NextCloud? I have an instance running on an RPi that fits my needs (storage without sharing outside the home firewall). For anything that needs sharing, I just copy those images to an old Dropbox that I’ve kept and share from there.
I frankly prefer options 4-5. There’s no evidence that Facebook will play nice and a lot of historical evidence that they won’t. I want to be on an instance willing to take the nuclear option if it comes to it.
Agreed. And I just saw lemmy.world’s post explaining why they aren’t going to defederate until Threads messes up. Personally, I think that’s granting Facebook far too much benefit of doubt. I’d much rather belong to an instance that takes a wait-and-see approach before allowing Facebook to connect to its communities.
As users, we have every right to express an opinion and to ask the admin to consider taking an action. As you say, if you don’t like it, join another instance.
Well done. I hope more of the fediverse follows suit. Facebook has a long way to go to restore trust – if that’s possible at all. They’re nowhere near that threshold yet.
Valid points. I was thinking of using a second drive. That way you’d still have this one to troubleshoot and learn from.
