The only mistake Billy made is giving anything to AdBlock Plus, the people who have sided WITH the ads, instead of uBlock Origin, the true MVPs of the ad blocking world. I guess uBlock doesn’t accept donations unfortunately, but still, ABP is shady and I would not support them.

I can understand a box with DisplayPort, USB, and power inputs as very few desktop PCs actually have a video- and power delivery-capable USB C port. I cannot understand the lack of controller features and HDR.

Ooh, this looks pretty nice. I’ll have to give Whisky a try just to see how games can run on my M1 Mac Mini. I have it set up as a TV PC and I usually just connect a Linux PC or Steam Deck to game on the TV. If I could run Windows games on it that’d be great.

The main issue with new Macs is that they use ARM processors and most games, even for Mac, were made for x86 processors. Minecraft works fine as it is CPU-independent Java code, but you aren’t going to have access to a wide library like you do with Linux. I think there have been efforts to game on Wine with Mac but it will likely require x86 CPU emulation through Rosetta 2, possibly slowing things down. I remember I got Skyrim to run on my Mac Mini M1 somehow but it wasn’t a good experience.

Get some HDMI to VGA adapters, the kind that screw into the VGA port and then have an HDMI port. I have a bunch of old VGA monitors I use with Raspberry Pis and as test displays when working on PCs and never have to deal with the annoyances of VGA since they’re basically HDMI displays now.

I have Waydroid set up on my postmarketOS OnePlus 6T mainly so I can use the Discord app. Waydroid still needs some integration issues worked out (access to location, access to Bluetooth, access to calls/texts, ability to forward notifications to the Linux side) but otherwise it runs quite well. Performance feels pretty similar to native. I also have a OnePlus 6 running stock OS for my main phone tasks as pmOS doesn’t have VoLTE support for the 6T so is kinda useless as a phone right now.

The best way to lemmy is mlmym.org on LibreWolf. Works great on Linux phone and has the same old.reddit interface I’ve used for over a decade.

Why waste space on single-purpose apps when you have a browser. Also, websites can’t track you or waste resources when you aren’t actively using them like apps can.

The best Lemmy experience is mlmym IMO. It’s pretty much a 1:1 recreation of old.reddit and it’s the interface I am comfortable with.

In Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, a “blood moon” happens every 3 or so in-game days. This is a cutscene where the sky turns red and the blood moon comes out. When this happens, all monsters you have killed in the world come back to life.

I hate Google too, but if they are proper open specification formats and aren’t encumbered by patents, why does it matter that Google created them? Open format is open format regardless of its creator.

Do these formats have some DRM capability or other nefarious reason to avoid them or is it just because they were created by someone we don’t like?

PinePhone Pro for the mobile side. The schematics are available. I quite like mine, especially with the keyboard case. It’s basically a pocket laptop.

IIRC you can disable it entirely with Group Policy Editor which is only available on Pro. I think there was a hack to enable it on Home so you could make Defender shut up once and for all…at least until the next Windows update that reenables it because Windows doesn’t care about your configuration.

True, but I was always an old.reddit user even when I used Reddit and Android (Firefox on Android). Now I use mlmym.org on my PinePhone. The experience is pretty much the same, except now I have a keyboard to type faster.

I use mlmym.org which is an Old Reddit style interface for Lemmy. Better than Old Reddit on mobile because it automatically reflows the sidebar to the bottom in vertical layout, though I use a PinePhone Pro with keyboard case so it’s pretty much always horizontal.

The solution is Linux Mobile, where browser becomes the only option as apps don’t tend to be available, but it’s a full fledged browser so it can use all the appropriate addons. Typing this from my PinePhone Pro with keyboard case, postmarketOS, LibreWolf with the same addon set that I have on my desktop and laptop because Firefox Sync keeps everything synced together.

Path of Exile works great on Linux.

Firefox has telemetry and has become adware. Mozilla VPN ads pop up every once in a while. Sponsored bullshit on the home screen. Pocket integration with recommended/sponsored content. Mozilla’s becoming what it set out to destroy unfortunately.

LibreWolf is Firefox without this garbage, plus more privacy focused defaults. Some of those defaults are rather extreme though so I recommend toning it back (such as deleting history/cookies after every session, and resist fingerprinting can screw up anything that displays time by not taking your time zone into account).
