  • It used to work at Apple tech support like a decade ago. I know bc I worked IT and our little program gave us a heads up about A: how long people had waited in cue and B: if they had cussed a.k.a were angry. When angry customers got to me there’d be a little angry emoji on the screen lol and those customers still tended to be cussing when I picked up. Anyway, I was always told that was how you skip cue and confirmed bc on days where the average wait time for a cx was say 20 minutes I’d get angry cussers that had only been in line for a few minutes. On the flip side I can confirm this doesn’t skip cue for Verizon (noticeably) as I’ve cussed that robot 10 times to no avail. Dmv doesn’t care either, but Apple once did.

  • Yeah that worries me. Was definitely just a lurker at first while I got used to the place. They didn’t ban me so I’m still here. Never had issues making or keeping accounts before but here lately it’s been such a hassle. Instagram has taken to banning me immediately, I had to make 10 accounts in a row before they didn’t immediately ban one.

Worst part is they don’t tell you why and you can’t fight it. I feel like it’s bc I use a VPN then lurk but idk. never another account there, not worth it. Facebook did the same thing a few times until something finally clicked in their system and they quit deleting them.

Tiktok has apparently done the same damn thing as I went to use my account the other day just to be informed it was deleted or banned I don’t remember.

Think it said to check my email, which I frequently do and there was no mail saying my account was going to be deleted much less why.

It’s ridiculous and rather than making a new account I just exit the site now.

So deleting them all? I don’t really agree (though I hope they were indeed bots!)

I think what would make more sense is to be more strict when users actually create the accounts in the first place. I feel like those “select all the images with bikes” are ridiculous, I’m human and half the time Google or wherever says I didn’t get it right but there HAS to be a simpler, better way.

I get hit with those all of the time, I think everyone with a VPN does so a few additional steps wouldn’t be such a big deal and imo would be far less annoying than logging in and realizing your account was blanket banned without explanation just bc you happened to create it while bot accounts were being made.

Would help even more if users had a string bot report feature where it was taken seriously. It could be pretty simple. See a bot? Report it.

The reviewer of the report, instead of just blanket banning should maybe contact the user first to check and see if they’re human. As far as user retention it’s better than just banning every bot we think we have.

  • Yep, also an easier way to explore/sign up and filter instances and their different pages. I’m new and have no idea what I’m doing regarding that. So far I’m just signing up to instances and hoping new interesting stuff appears on my page… I’m on Lemmy.world as I assume we all are, how do I view the different pages on this instance or is it all just in a singular feed?

  • I’d say probably the users leaving reddit due to the api changes. Iirc around the 20th was when spez did an AMA about the changes and made PR exponentially worse by using canned responses, throwing subtle insults here and there and ignoring the big questions in favor of what he’d already had his PR team write a response for. It was more rage inducing than the initial api change announcement.

I could be completely wrong though maybe that wasn’t on the 20th but feels like it was in my head canon

  • What’s funny is I’ve been getting 10x more replies since the announced api changes which is odd. Before they were announced I would comment many times a day but rarely ever get many replies. Since the api change announcement? I’ve been staying off mostly bc fuck that place but when I have checked my account there have been 10-20 replies a day to older comments. Weird. Tin-foil-hat me feels like maybe there was a reduction of interaction after he screwed everyone over and maybe he’s using bots to make it seem lively. Definitely seen an increase in bot comments
